Your living room just might be the most important part of the home. The place where you relax with family and friends, this space should reflect your favorite way to wind down: whether that’s sharing conversation, catching some TV or cozying up to the fireplace.

Struggling to make your living room your own? Our team offers residential interior design that Philadelphia residents love. We’re happy to share 3 of our favorite living room layouts to inspire your own stylish, functional space.

1. This is a very traditional way to set-up the furniture in your living room. It also might be the most recognizable to many people because of its signature symmetrical layout. Have two sofas sit directly across from one another with a fireplace at one end of the room serving as the focal point of the room. In our opinion living rooms are meant for entertaining & this set-up can help the conversation flow between your guests as there is nothing obstructing their view of one another.

2. This set-up is all about the sectional (L-shape) sofa. Sectional sofas can have endless configurations but this set-up is our favorite. Use a sectional sofa as your primary seating with two chairs adjacent to it. When you have this type of sofa as your primary seating, have both legs of the L-shape have a direct line of sight to the focal point of the room. In this case the television is the focal point. That said, the open area across from the sectional will likely fit one or two comfy armchairs. Allow for that arm chair to have a direct line of sight to the television as well if possible.

3. This seating arrangement is perfect when the focal point of your living room is a fireplace. The placement of the furniture allows for everyone to get cozy by the fire no matter where they’re sitting. Allow for at least 10 feet between the face of the fireplace and the front of the sofa. This will make the rest of the living room furniture fit nicely. We suggest 2 comfy club chairs on either side of the sofa.
