Personality & Pattern in the Home with Henck Design: Wallpaper

Wallpaper is a great way to add color and pattern to your home. If that’s not up your alley, do something more low-key that’s very stylish- wallpaper is for everyone! There are many different wallpaper designs that are sure to appeal your design aesthetic.

There was a time in the early 20th century when the majority of the U.S. economy was run by agriculture, which translated to agricultural motifs & dated florals for home design. Oh how far we’ve come! Wallpaper has come a long way from its roots for it to become trendy again. The sky is the limit with wallpaper and there’s now something for everyone.

Wallpaper designs range from traditional and bold to calm and serene. Muted and monochromatic toned wallpaper tends to be subtle and work harmoniously with any furniture and accessories. While bold patterns, graphics and color easily become the focal point in a room. It is important to consider how your wallpaper will interact with the other features in a room when choosing the intensity of the design.

Big, dramatic floral wallpapers are a big trend on social media at the moment. Their striking visuals are the reason why they are so popular on visually driven apps like Instagram. The darker florals set a dramatic, romantic mood, which would make for a great accent wall in a bedroom. Did you know that fashion houses like Christian Lacroix & Versace are designing and selling wallpaper now? The designs are over the top and borderline tacky-but we love many of them! Designers tend to push the envelope with their motifs and color palettes because they need to create things that have never been done before. After all, it doesn’t pay to be like everyone else.  These forward thinking design aren’t for everyone, but they’re fun to integrate into a special place- like an accent wall or a powder room.

Henck Design, Fun & Funky in Fishtown

A Henck Design Fishtown client was on board with geometric wallpaper as an accent wall in their home office. It’s a strong design motif because it stands alone as the backdrop for the desk in the office. Accent walls are a great way to use wallpapers without overpowering a room.

If you’re a fan of bold, graphic patterns, but still feel like you want to stay on the safe side, here’s a solution! Ditch the color. The lowered chroma in patterns makes wallpapers less intense and gives the room a softer look.

If this still sounds overstimulating for your space, consider this more realistic approach to wallpaper. A great new trend that is emerging is faux finish wallpapers. These incredibly realistic designs replicate some of the most popular finishes that were not included in the architecture of your home, including brick and marble. One of the cooler aspects of this trend is its ability to have realistic patterns. Learn how to take marble print wallpaper to the next level, with some of the most creative examples of this trend from Apartment Therapy.
