One of the most enduring trends that will continue to stand the test of time is the use of natural elements. This includes incorporating wood tones, fresh and bright interiors, and occasional dark and moody rooms for added depth and sophistication. At Henck Design, we embrace these elements to create transitional interiors that are approachable, casual, and comfortable for our clients in the luxury market. We love using the softness of upholstered goods along with plenty of soft window treatments to keep rooms feeling cozy no matter how large in scale they may be.

We draw inspiration from modern California style interiors and Spanish-style homes, infusing traditional elements with a modern twist to achieve a look that is quintessentially American and inviting. This interior design trend gives a subtle nod to the old world, but feels very current. Most of our clients don’t want a stuffy space that feels unwelcoming. We also focus on creating neutral spaces with layered textures and incorporate items from our client’s travels, family photos and other personal items to create an identity for the home and tell each clients individual story. In our high-end projects, outdoor spaces play a crucial role in enhancing the overall living experience. We design outdoor areas with the same level of care and attention as indoor spaces, furnishing them with gorgeous high-end lounge and dining furniture to promote seamless indoor/outdoor living.

Texture is another key element in not only our designs, but across the board as a trend, many designers are using boucle fabrics, linens, and lots of leathers to play up this critical element. We believe that layered textures add a sense of softness and warmth to a space. By incorporating natural and earthy materials like natural stones and wood, such as slate, limestone, marble, and travertine, we create a harmonious balance that brings the outdoors in.

When it comes to lighting, we always use a "three-tier lighting" approach, utilizing a combination of overhead lighting, table lamps, sconces, and floor lamps to create a well-lit and inviting ambiance. We also place a strong emphasis on incorporating aspirational fixtures that are oversized and high-end, adding a touch of luxury to the space. Trends around light fixtures have changed in recent years. They tend to be more traditional in style now but they have updated finishes like matte black, soft golds and other textural metals.

In recent years, in lieu of trendy wallpapers, we opt for soft finishes like limewash and textural wall coverings to create a sophisticated backdrop for our designs. Softer wall treatments are more on trend, and an understated approach to wallpapers is more in line with what we call “quiet luxury”. Less is more, and we really prefer a more understated feel.

Custom window treatments are also a non-negotiable for us. Trends around window treatments have changed from the store bought metal grommet style panels to a more classic “Euro pleat” style drapery. Custom window treatments like roman shades over more commercial looking roller shades make all the difference for our clients who want their homes design to feel elevated and soft. Not only do window treatments elevate a room but also tie together all the design elements to create a cohesive and comfortable living environment.
