Modern Classic Main Line Interior

This job was all about creating Classic Modern style for this young growing family in Bryn Mawr, PA. In the heart of the Main Line, this million-dollar home stands out from the crowd in its design style. It was really important for this home’s interior design that we layered items like custom draperies, print wallpapers, modern abstract art, and elements like rugs and certain fabrics to add movement that emboldens the home’s style. We utilized designer patterns on rugs, draperies, and wallpapers like ikat, abstract arch patterns in the dining room, and another ikat on the family room blue drapes.

Classic blue and white with fresh light warm tones create soft elegant seating areas in this Main Line family room. In designing this interior, it was important that we infused it with pretty blue tones while not overwhelming the room. We didn’t want to create a colorful room, but rather an overall neutral palette with soft touches of cool and classic blue tones. Custom draperies and custom roman shades really put the finishing touches to elevate the aesthetic of this relaxed and homey Main Line family room.

The formal living room was all about pushing the envelope and taking risks with darker, more dramatic paint colors in a transitional Main Line setting. This space’s interior design was successful because of the play on color, use of pattern, and the layering of textures. We used oversized colorful modern art to fill expansive walls and incorporated a rustic driftwood coffee table which contrasts with the surrounding traditional interior design elements. Historic decor elements meet convention in this formal living room. The space planning for this living room is rather conventional while we took advantage of some atypical materials and patterns for an original look for this Bryn Mawr household.

This dining room was truly all about layering. We used an expansive charcoal gray grass rug to underscore these hotel-like custom dining chairs that flank the expandable hardwood dining table. This remarkable 60” wide dining room chandelier leaves nothing to be desired. Handmade glass pieces finish the look. Relaxed roman shades made out of sateen repeat the charcoal gray features throughout the room. The walls were so expansive in this room that it was important to break them up with custom millwork, elegant wallpaper, and sophisticated art pieces.

Sophisticated, tasteful, refined. These Bryn Mawr clients’ love for color shines through in their sublime master suite. This multicolored master bedroom features a classic warm and cool play-on color. Cool tones like Sherwin Williams’ Distance Blue walls contrast against silky warm-toned relaxed roman shades and draperies, alongside the modern four-poster bed and full-size dressers to replace the otherwise typical small nightstands. Creating a personal retreat within the bedroom by one of Christina Henck’s favorite features of the room: putting a small sofa at the foot of the bed, along with a pair of matching ottomans seals this sweet master bedroom deal.

The most central challenge Henck faced in updating this traditional Bryn Mawr home’s interior was to create a modern classic design style for a growing Main Line family. This young family will continue to entertain in these great spaces and be supported by their home for years to come.
