Moderna; Simple & Minimal

Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia

Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse neighborhood has a reputation for being the best luxury living that the city has to offer. Outside of Philadelphia’s Main Line area, Rittenhouse is known for the best real estate around. Not only that, but Rittenhouse Square Park is one of the most popular areas around, boasting Spring art shows, the best restaurants in town and plenty of historic cultures and immaculate landscaping.

This home, just blocks from the park, is part of the Moderna Development, which has a contemporary design feel. The Henck Design (HD) team focused on warming up the spaces with soft paint colors, high-end materials like Arabescato Corchia Marble and white oak, and focused on sourcing the best for this modern design possible.

The family room, kitchen and dining space speaks to simplicity, clean lines, plays on texture, and quiet drama. These are fundamental elements in achieving a perfectly balanced contemporary style home.

To keep the modern home feeling warm, blended textures like boucle fabric, velvet accents, and warm wood tones are used in each room. Off the family room a spacious private deck for dining and entertaining.

A huge black and white portrait of Bridgitte Bardot overlooks the dining room, adding a starkly modern edge to the space that has a retro flair. The young homeowners wanted to reside in a home with some playful features, like modern art pieces, funky window treatment fabrics, and an occasional pop of color in bathroom and guest room art.

The entire fourth floor owner’s suite is a sight to behold, with tons of natural light. The expansive suite includes two walk-in closets, huge wallpapered walls, a large contemporary bath and walk in spa style shower.

Throughout the home, Henck outfitted custom window treatments, oversized furniture, rustic light fixtures and blended the contemporary design aesthetic with a young, energetic approach for the modern interior design. It was important to create a modern home that still feels cozy and relaxed for the young couple to entertain in.

Roman shades and line the windows in the contemporary white kitchen, and we updated modern light fixtures to speak to the client’s style. Contemporary style window treatments line the walls of the Primary bedroom as well as family rooms to add privacy to the oversized windows and give the option for enjoying great unobstructed views of Philadelphia’s skyline.

The city dwelling couple who hired Henck Design to outfit their contemporary new construction home in Rittenhouse felt it was important to take some design risks, and ensure the home feels comfortable to entertain guests in whether in the family room, kitchen or expansive roof deck upstairs.
