Modernized Beach Home

Barnegat Bay, New Jersey

This New Jersey vacation home needed an update into a modernized beach home in Barnegat Bay, near LBI. The interior design goals were clear from the beginning. The home owners knew they wanted their second home to reflect their own personal contemporary style while bringing the outdoor elements into the spaces.

This bayfront home is just minutes from beautiful Long Beach Island. Henck Design incorporated a coastal color palette, including soft green tones on doors & ceiling treatments along with cool blue paint colors throughout the home to counterbalance modern black and white décor. In the great room, the home's waterfront views are framed by an array of windows that open up to the scenic bay, while a towering two-story fireplace dominates a central wall. With such amazing features in the room, it was easy to incorporate neutral design elements to allow these architectural and interior design to come together. Comfortable seating takes up the majority of the great room, with large curved sofas that allow for everyone to be included in the conversation. Black marble and smoked glass finishes accentuate the contemporary interior design and large modern art echoes the sunset tones visible on the water.

The designers at Henck Design repeated black marble as a staple element for the modern beach home. With enough seating for the whole family, the dining room has become the central gathering place. Adding to the contemporary design, the large-scale black canopy chandelier hangs overhead and draws the eye up to a customized shiplap ceiling painted in Benjamin Moore’s “Cloudy Sky”; this color repeats throughout the rest of the home’s interior doors and ties the décor together. Green plants, floral arrangements, and fresh fruit add additional color, nature, and life to the vacation home.

A splash of color on the island keeps the Kitchen lively; painted in Sherwin Williams’ “Storm Cloud”. Echoed by the vented hood, the island’s position allows for open sight-lines to the rest of the space. Black and silver pendants highlight the contemporary look, as do the counter stools alternating in shades of cream and gray to add interest and something unexpected.

The hidden gem of this New Jersey beach home is the upstairs loft, which serves as an informal entertaining space for the family. The deep green-gray walls allow the upholstered furnishings to visually pop. The white sectional sofa is accompanied by light gray stools and seating surrounding the leather topped coffee table. The marble game table surrounded by tufted green chairs adds a contemporary yet classic feel for the space and creates the perfect game room to enjoy family time while taking in the beautiful views.

The amount of love that this family holds for each other and their new home by the bay is evident to everyone who walks through the door. Henck Design helped this family make their contemporary beach home dreams a reality while capturing the home owners’ personality and style.
