Rittenhouse Philadelphia: The New Modern Classic

Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia

An interior design project created with a modern aesthetic can still be a classic beauty. This Rittenhouse Home is proof of just that.

This single-family home is perfect for the homeowner who wants to enjoy a modern living experience in a historic area of Philadelphia. The young couple relocated to this center city home from the Graduate Hospital neighborhood. They needed a fresh start with a clean and contemporary interior design palette, so they called the experts.

For these clients, the Henck Design (HD) Team delivered a neutral color palette. This 5000 square foot home's interior needed transitional furniture, rugs and modern lighting. One motif that HD is known for is lining walls with large-scale mirrors to expand living and dining spaces for an elevated interior design. The design group utilized a variety of textures in the home like rough plaster, smooth large format tile, and light wood tones with heavy graining to add interest and tie spaces together.
There is natural stone with a waterfall edge in the kitchen for a clean look. The main floor's open floor plan’s layout is perfect for entertaining. This home exudes a California-like feel - which means it embodies relaxed luxury.

The living room has a stunning black marble fireplace with tall windows and custom draperies fabricated for the open, airy second level of the home.
To elevate the dining room, Henck Design incorporated a banquette rather than using traditional dining chairs and an oversized dining table that allows the couple to keep their friends and family around for gatherings frequently.

The primary bedroom is a completely one-of-a-kind space curated just for the happy couple. The soaring floor-to-ceiling headboard was created by local furniture fabricators. Along with these sleek features, the HD Team included a matching bench to enhance the contemporary essence of this room.

With charcoal walls and dark wood tones found on the nightstands, floor mirrors, and oversized dresser, the HD Team was able to achieve a masculine style for the primary bedroom.

The fifth-floor roof deck, lined with sizable sliding glass doors, overlooks the beautiful view of the Philadelphia skyline. Sunlight floods the space twice a day, creating a cozy environment with quality window treatments to adapt to any weather on this top floor space. Creating simple luxury for the roof deck makes it the perfect place to escape from the bustling city below.
