Updated English Country Cottage
Bryn Mawr, PAWhen we arrived at this Bryn Mawr home for the first time, our Design Team found something dated and somewhat dreary. After the Henck Design team worked to plan, redesign, furnish and completely update this English style home on the Main Line, something beautiful emerged. We used the existing architecture and many of the original materials to work from, incorporating warm browns and neutrals with upholstered goods, casegoods and many one of a kind pieces. Just a three minute drive from Bryn Mawr College, the location of this home lends itself to having historic roots, and Because this home's style is somewhere in between French Country and English Cottage style, we found it critical to use exposed beams, natural stone accents, and rustic wood tones to tell the “full story” of this gorgeous suburban estate. For something you may have found four hundred years ago in the English countryside, we wanted to honor by creating a multitude of warm, inviting, and cozy spaces that are ready for modern day living. This redesign was truly one we created from our hearts and transformed into a very special project for us at Henck Design.
When it comes to interior design projects in the Main Line area of Pennsylvania, the value that designers bring to the table cannot be overstated. Philadelphia Main Line architecture is known for a host of design aesthetics. The diverse examples range from Tudor Revival, Dutch Colonial, Georgian and other blended styles. This recent project for a couple who purchased a cottage style home in Bryn Mawr exemplifies this perfectly. The use of decorative lighting, applied millwork and window treatments alone make a huge lasting impression. You can almost feel the warm breeze come in the window when you enjoy images of the dining room and dens. The challenges of updating a home with dated elements like fireplaces and mantle designs require project management and a keen eye for design. For this client, we managed the renovation of several common rooms as well as bathrooms. Our skilled team along with our local vendors and partners enabled us to bring it all together seamlessly.
Despite the home's over 3000 square feet size, not common for cottage style living, the Henck Design team managed to honor this architectural style while infusing modern touches to elevate each space. Custom millwork, and carefully curated furnishings were just a few elements that transformed the home into a cohesive and stylish sanctuary. We updated fixtures, hardware, and paint colors throughout.
The decision-making process around material selections was a tricky one. We used existing elements like the fire brick colored tile, some quartzite and millwork alongside new custom treatments. It is safe to say the expertise of our interior design team truly shines through the final product. In a multi-million dollar home like this, every detail matters, and having professionals who understand the local market and design trends is paramount, whether our projects be in Middle Tennessee or Eastern Pennsylvania.
One of the key reasons why interior designers add so much value on the Main Line of Pennsylvania specifically, is our ability to blend timeless design elements with the unique characteristics of each home. By incorporating natural elements and classic themes, designers can create spaces that feel both current and enduring. In a location like Bryn Mawr, where historic charm meets present-day luxury, striking this balance is essential to creating modern day comforts and style for our Main Line clientele.
An appraisal showed almost immediately Investing in an interior designer for this significant home renovation is not just about aesthetics; it maximized the potential of the property. With our home design expertise in space planning, color theory, and project management, our designers can take a vision and turn it into a reality that surpasses expectations.
This Bryn Mawr cottage project by Henck Design showcases the importance of not only living in a warm cozy environment, but it also shows how doing work on your home can make you money in the future, by adding value to the home. Items like custom builtins, updated bathrooms, exterior paint and more added real market value for these clients. Our ability to blend classic and contemporary elements while respecting the home's original style is a testament to the value we bring to the Main Line housing market. Timeless interior design, rooted in natural elements and classic themes, ensures that a home will stand the test of time and continue to delight its owners for years to come.
