The Modernized Beach Home
For these clients purchasing their family vacation home in gorgeous Barnegat Bay, the interior design goals were clear from the beginning. The clients knew they wanted their second home to reflect their own personal contemporary style while incorporating a beachy feel. Just minutes from beautiful Long Beach Island (a.k.a. LBI) Henck Design incorporated seafoam greens and oceanic blues throughout the home to counterbalance modern black and white décor.
Two main features of the great room deliver and impact. The waterfront views of the home are provided by an array of windows that look out across the iconic bay and the large two-story fireplace stretches up a central wall. With such amazing features in the room, it was easy to incorporate neutral design elements to allow these architectural design elements to come together. Comfortable seating takes up the majority of the great room, with large curved sofas allowing for everyone to be included in the conversation. Black marble and glass finishes accentuate the contemporary interior design and large modern art echoes the sunset tones visible on the water.
We repeated black marble as a staple element for the modern beach home. With enough seating for the whole family, the dining room has become the central gathering place. Adding to the contemporary design, the large-scale black canopy chandelier hangs overhead and draws the eyes up to our customized shiplap ceiling painted in Benjamin Moore’s “Cloudy Sky”; this color repeats throughout the rest of the home’s interior doors and ties the décor together. Green plants, floral arrangements, and fresh fruit add additional color, nature, and life to the vacation home.
The adjacent kitchen adds a splash of color with the island painted in Sherwin Williams’ “Storm Cloud”. Echoed In the hood, the island’s position allows for open sightlines to the rest of the space. Black and silver pendants highlight the contemporary look, as do the counter stools alternating in shades of cream and gray.
The hidden gem of this home is the upstairs loft, the informal entertaining space for the family. The deep green-gray walls allow the upholstered items to shine. A white upholstered sectional accompanies light gray stools and seating surrounding the leather topped coffee table. The marble game table surrounded by tufted green chairs adds a contemporary yet classic feeling to the space and creates the perfect space to enjoy family time with beautiful views out to the bay below.
The amount of love that this family holds for each other and their new home by the bay is evident to everyone who walks through the door. Henck Design has helped this family make their contemporary beach home dreams a reality and has perfectly captured their personality. The Barnegat Bay home is beautiful and sure to spark envy throughout the island.
